It’s the most wonderful time of the year…We are more than halfway through the NFL season and the playoff picture is starting to come into focus. The Steelers who had looked so putrid until Ben Roethlisberger threw twelve (12) touchdowns in 2 games against the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens, two of the top defensive teams in the league. So even though the Jets game was in New York, the Steel curtain was going to come crashing down on the J-E-T-S, right? No, the Steelers lost to a Michael Vick lead Jets team to a 13-20. The other shocker for me was the 49ers beating the Saints, only because the Saints (like the Seahawks) never lose at home. Saints fans stop crying about offensive pass interference and blame Drew Brees for fumbling the football, or the defense not being about to stop the 9ers on 4th & 10. Thursday night the Browns shocked me and beat the Cincinnati Bengals 24-3 in Cincy, and that wasn’t the story of the night. Pediatric cancer patient Leah Still was the winner no matter what was on that scoreboard. Being strong enough to travel from Philadelphia’s Children’s Hospital to Cincinnati Ohio to see her father play football for the very first time was the win of the week.
Arizona won again and pushed them to a league leading 8-1, I’ve had them as number one in my power rankings and then I thought about last season. There’s always a team that goes from last to first, the Cardinals are this year’s Chiefs and therefore frauds. Losing Carson Palmer will be more problematic than Coach Arians has you believing. The Dolphins are better than they’re being given credit for, if they can be more consistent, they’re a playoff team. The Falcons, Bears, Buccaneers, Jaguars, Titans, Jets, Raiders, Giants, ‘Skins, and Panthers are done. The Raiders are overcooked.
Tom Brady and the Patriots are peaking and getting healthy and they scare me as I have Peyton Manning going back to the Superbowl, losing to New England now gives the Patriots home field should both teams win out. However, in truth the Broncos have the easier schedule so my pick may still be safe. The Broncos must play better on defense, because Rob Gronkowski is putting on a clinic and is a physically dominating hybrid receiver. Linebackers aren’t fast enough to catch him and he swats away defensive backs like gnats. He is scary good.
TK is a hater, if you don’t believe me check that hashtag on Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, and Facebook. It’s something I’m actually proud of, but my hypocrisy has limitations. Mark Sanchez played his ass off on Monday night. It proves two things, Chip Kelly’s system can make any QB look great, and a change of scenery can do wonders for a man. The later I can attest to because divorcing my shrew of a wife and moving far away from her was the best thing ever.
Speaking of the best thing ever, how good was Tony Romo on Sunday? To see your team play in your home town, is something to behold, even if they are the visiting team. Romo has had more touchdown passes in other games. He has had more yards. He has been more accurate. He has made more plays out of nothing. He has had more highlights. He has had more important wins but what he did Sunday against thee Jacksonville Jaguars in the Dallas Cowboys’ 31-17 win was significant. Playing with two transverse process fractures in his back, Romo threw for 246 yards on 20-of-27 passing. He had three touchdown passes. He was sacked once. Things were so good, that Romo got not play the entire game. DeMarco MVP Murray rushed only 19 times, but our healthy offensive line was back to mauling their opponents. Dallas will make the playoffs. For this season to be a success Dallas MUST win a playoff game or the good will being extended to Jerry Jones will dissipate faster than we turned on him after he fired Jimmy Johnson.
TK’s Power Rankings
1. New England Patriots
2. Denver Broncos
3. Detroit Lions
4. Dallas Cowboys
5 Philadelphia Eagles
Can’t miss games in week 11 Philadelphia at Green Bay and New England at Indianapolis
